Day Stay at Crowne Plaza Changi Airport : Expensive and No Views

Day Stay time ! A Day Stay at Crowne Plaza Changi Airport. It is not cheap at all. And you might not get the coveted runway view too. So what’s the nice thing about doing a day stay at Crowne Plaza Changi Airport ? I am not so sure either ๐Ÿ™‚

I stayed at this hotel a long time ago on a staycation and you can read about that in Crowne Plaza Changi Airport Staycation.

Cost of a Day Stay at Crowne Plaza Changi Airport

The cost of a day stay at Crowne Plaza is about SGD280 for about 8 hours stay. That’s before GST and taxes. All in, it will cost you SGD335.72. WOW

There is a good benefit though. Besides being a nice room (the view is a separate issue), it has many flexible hours to choose from. It can be 8am to 4pm, 10am to 6pm, 12noon to 8pm etc etc.

It does cater for travellers who want to have a stay over and does not want to do so at Yotel Jewel (which is much smaller in size). Remember that Yotel Jewel does not have a cancellation policy so you are pretty much stuck with your order.

Stay at Jewel Wing

I was given a room at Jewel Wing, which I guess is the “wing of rooms” closest to Jewel. It does take a walk from the reception to the room. The reception area is pretty busy (with many tourists and staycation people) so it is relatively easy to just meet someone there and walk to the room.

My check in was very easy (and I even managed to make sure they know I am an Elite Platinum of IHG but I guess it does not work, as usual, for day stays). But the reception staff are very nice !!

The Jewel Wing is, obviously, near to Jewel so it is pretty easy to walk from the hotel to Jewel.

The walk to the room from Reception to Jewel Wing is pretty nice. To me.

Cost Comparison

The room is pretty big (for a day stay) but then the cost is high :). I can only compare it to day stays such as Swissotel The Stamford or my favourite PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay. Or Fairmount Hotel and Marriott Tangs. The reason I said that because that’s the similar price range for a day stay at these hotels.

You obviously can’t compare it with Dorsett Changi (now the new operator for the “Changi Capri by Fraser“) or the Mercure Bugis or even the Studio M.

In that regard, the room definitely pares in comparison to the expensive ones above. Swissotel and Fairmount and Park Royal hotels (both Marina Bay and Pickering) have great rooms. The views at these hotels are great. And they are close to good food and shopping too. And talking about shopping, both expensive ones like Pullman Orchard and Holiday Inn Express Orchard are close to Orchard Road and Apple Store ๐Ÿ™‚

But of course, they are downtown and lack that “get away feeling”.

Which of course is found at a hotel in the airport. The other saving grace is if you can get a room with a good view (not for me) and you love Jewel (Like I do). But then do you go to a Day Stay and then get out for Shopping and Food at the Jewel ? ๐Ÿ™‚

Finally, there is NO FREE PARKING. This is standard Terminal 3 airport parking costs. So do factor that into your calculations. Just like Yotel Changi too.

Photos of the Day Stay Room

Here are some photos !

The room (okay after a day stay use :p)

There is quite a nice table for you to do some real work.

There is also a nice sofa bed by the side.

And the selection of bar is quite ok.

Moving on to the toilet, which is of course, the highlight of the room. But then it is no Ritz-Carlton Singapore, obviously. It is separated from the room by a sliding door. I could not find a way to make the toilet a private one (ie make the sliding door opaque). So if you don’t want to see each other’s bodies when showering, I am not sure what to do ๐Ÿ™‚

The view I got is to face another building of the hotel and hence it is not so ideal. You end up drawing down the privacy shades when using the shower room and bath tub.

I found out later where my room is from outside the hotel when walking to Jewel ๐Ÿ™‚

The sink is pretty big and nice. And the shower room is decent too.

I guess if you can get the room opposite of mine which faces Jewel, it will be better but then I noticed that people walking to Jewel can stare right into your bath tub too. HA.

Day Stay at Crowne Plaza Changi : To Go or Not To Go

Unless you are a damn big fan of getting away from town AND also staying at a hotel in the airport (and don’t like Yotel) then this might be for you. The cost is too high for regular day stays so it is probably for a special occasion only.
