I am going to carry on writing about “work from hotel” packages. I covered the excellent Funan Lyf package and today, I am going to cover the Marriott “Work In Style. Stay Connected” package.
Update : 10th Nov. The fun is over.
The original promotion is no longer available and replaced by “Work Anywhere Day Pass” that starts from 6am till 6pm at S$155++ for single or double occupancy.
Use this link for reservation availability.
The hotels in Singapore continues to increase in number that offer a “Work from Hotel” package. Also known as Day Stay package, in the old days, such “day stay” are traditionally limited to those manly transit hotels 🙂
Today, with the arrival of Covid-19, the hotels who are struggling to fill their rooms needed a new revenue source and besides staycation for the weekends, during the weekdays, they came up with the “Work from Hotel” packages.
The Marriott “Work In Style. Stay Connected” package is available at two hotels. One is Tang Plaza at Orchard Road. The other (yes, unbelievable) is St Regis. St F***-ing Regis for a Work from Hotel. Beat that.
Booking the Marriott “Work In Style. Stay Connected”
There are two ways to do a booking for the Marriott “Work In Style. Stay Connected”
First way is through the Marriott web site or Marriott Bonvoy mobile app You need to be using the “ZDY” rate code.
However, I find this is really hard to get a room available (for example, on the app, I could NOT find a single room for Oct, Nov and Dec for Marriott Tang Plaza at the time of writing).
However, if you don’t mind and do want to spend, there is always St Regis for $180 before taxes. For just a day stay. HA 🙂
The second way is to write it to Marriott at “[email protected]” and ask for availability. I noticed they are pretty quick to reply and so that’s a good way too. Booking this way will also have the booking appear on your Marriott Bonvoy app which you can then easily cancel if you find that you don’t need the stay.
Benefits of the Package
The package includes the use of the swimming pool and gym, as well as a free car parking pass should you be driving. This free parking is really useful if you drive to the hotel and park there for the whole day. I think it already cost about SGD18 for a full day of parking at the Marriott.
The rest of the official benefits are:
Usage of guest room from 7 a.m to 7 p.m (maximum of 1 guest)
In-room coffee and tea making facilities
30% off F&B (including In-room Dining)
Usage of swimming pool and gym
One complimentary parking pass
Look at the hours of usage. 7am to 7pm. Cannot be beaten in today’s market. The best in the market.
I am no high flyer enough for St Regis so I chose the simpler Marriott Tang Plaza for my work from hotel experience. Hopefully the 4D gods can let me hit a good first prize this weekend to spend a day at St Regis 🙂
Breakfast at Marriott Tang Plaza
I arrived at 7:30 am and the lobby was very quiet. This package is one of the best as it is a 12 hours long package. Starts at 7am and end at 7pm. Hence arriving at 7:30am is fine. Not so for other hotels which start at 9am.
While it was not stated in the benefits, I was offered breakfast at the Marriott cafe. This is probably due to the Elite Gold Status (or the temporary Platinum status) that I have (through the American Express Platinum Card). The benefits of the American Express Platinum Card have been well spoken of in these blog posts such as this, this and this.
Also during this stay, American Express is giving $100 for every $400 spent.
Hence it makes a lot of sense to have the the American Express Platinum Card during this stay too.
Breakfast is served at the famous Marriott Cafe.
In today’s post covid world you simply choose from a menu and they will serve you.
The Room at Marriott Tang Plaza
I was also given a one level (I think) free upgrade to a better room and so here are some photos of the room for the next 12 hours (or depends on how long you want to work in it).
My room was on the 29th floor.
The room do looked a little jaded (to me) but otherwise it is clean and comfortable. The room has ample day light and makes it very refreshing to stay there to work.
Most importantly, there are ample power supply points and USB ports for charging your mobile phone and iPads.
And a BIG King Size Bed. Nice !
The view is pretty decent from 29th floor but the close proximity of the buildings nearby kind of let it down a little. This is Orchard Road. View is expensive. Real Estate is expensive.
And hey, you are here to work ! What view do you want.
You can do some deep reading on the very nice and comfortable couch and also there is a large working desk for your laptop. I never appreciate these tables in hotel rooms till I started this “work from hotel” thing.
The table has power supply and USB Chargers
Now you are not supposed to be watching TV okay but there is one Samsung TV.. channels aplenty. Just no HBO !
Like some of the hotels, they are clear about how they are protecting you during this difficult period of time.
Just two wipes (compared to other hotel like Fairmount).
Now as compared to Funan Lyf, the bathroom here is outstanding. A proper and large bathroom.
Comes with a bath tub
And comes with full toilet supplies (you know dental kit) which, of course, as a true Singaporean, I took almost all home 🙂
You never know when these come useful okay…
And oh yes, how can I forgot. Coffee. Nespresso Style. With 3 capsules
Conclusion
With its location at Orchard Road (you can go for lunch and extended shopping during the work from hotel stay), its free parking (useful to me) and the relatively cheap price (it is about SGD120) with 12 whole hours of stay, it is a very good offer for anyone who wants to get away from Working From Home (WFH) for a while.
And because of my Gold Elite status (due to American Express Platinum Card), the cost are further reduced by an upgraded room and a free breakfast.
And amazingly, it even earns points with Marriott Bonvoy 🙂
The only problem ? I find availability to be extremely limited (both from the Marriott Bonvoy app and even an email booking) and I wonder why. The hotel is huge and with relatively low occupancy , there should be many rooms available. Yet availability is an issue.
Are there really so many takers for this Marriott “Work In Style. Stay Connected” package that it is full ?
