One of the 2 hotels I stayed during my recent trip to Osaka was at the Marriott Courtyard at Shin Osaka, Japan. The other one was Holiday Inn Shin Osaka.

Why stay at the Shin Osaka area
The Shin-Osaka area is not really the first place we think of when we go to Osaka. We usually think of Namba area or Umeda area. For this trip, I wanted to go to Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Dome and Itsukushima Shrine at Miyajima Island so I thought I would make use of the West JR Kansai-Hiroshima Area Pass to do so. And this ride to Hiroshima was on a Shinkansen train so I thought I would want to stay near to Shin Osaka station.
Both these hotels are close to the Shin Osaka station. If you stay at Courtyard Shin-Osaka Station, you are literally seconds away from the Shin-Osaka station.
The Shin-Osaka station is not just a Shinkansen station but a station for JR Kyoto line and is also a local station for the Midosuji Line.
Staying at these two hotels and hence, to be able to use the Shinkansen line allows me to go to Hiroshima (where I had a nice one night stay at the Nest Hotel Hiroshima after sight seeing) and Kobe easily. The JR Kyoto line allows me to go to Nara and Kyoto easily too.
And the Red Line allows me to go to Osaka Castle, to go to Yasaka Namba Shrine, and to go to the usual tourists places in Namba, Umeda, Shinsaibashi . And it is pretty easy to get to Kyoto early in the morning to enjoy sights such as Fushimi Inari Shrine, Kinkakuji Golden Pavilion Kyoto and Arashiyama Bamboo Grove.
Convenience is a key highlight of this hotel, with its close proximity to Shin Osaka Station, providing easy access to popular destinations in Osaka and beyond (e.g. Miyajima Island) and Arima Onsen. Or even a visit to the Cup Noodles Museum Osaka Ikeda.
Whether you’re planning to explore the vibrant city center, visit historic landmarks, or immerse yourself in the local culture, the hotel’s location serves as an excellent base for your adventures.
And it is literally a base. For many days in Osaka, I was able to bring back a tired kid to the room for a rest after a whole morning of activities and let him have a sleep or a drink at the lounge (while the rest of the more energetic family members continue their shopping at Namba etc). It is really a good thing to stay right next to the train station and able to get back to rest easily.
Location of Marriott Courtyard at Shin Osaka
Nestled in the heart of the bustling Shin Osaka district, this hotel offers an unparalleled stay for both business and leisure travelers. The Courtyard by Marriott at Shin-Osaka is conveniently located right next to Shin-Osaka Station. This prime location provides easy access to various transportation options, allowing guests to explore Osaka and beyond with utmost convenience.
You can see this map on how Courtyard by Marriott is literally next to Shin-Osaka. Conversely, the IHG Holiday Inn Shin-Osaka is about 10-15 mins walk away.
The Lobby of Marriott Courtyard at Shin Osaka
A beautiful lobby awaits me when we arrived from a whole day from Arima Onsen, Kobe.
Very calming and nice use of lights. From the moment you step into the modern and inviting lobby, you’ll be greeted by a warm and attentive staff, dedicated to ensuring your stay is nothing short of exceptional.
And guess what. When we arrived, the luggages we asked the Holiday Inn Shin-Osaka to “ship” to Courtyard by Marriott at Shin-Osaka were all there. Every single piece. Awaiting for us at the lobby. Japan is sooooo good and efficient.
The Executive Lounge at Courtyard by Marriott at Shin-Osaka
Yes, the Courtyard by Marriott at Shin-Osaka does have a lounge for its guests. The lounge provides a comfortable and stylish space where you can relax, socialize, or catch up on work. It offers amenities such as complimentary snacks and beverages, comfortable seating areas, and often provides a peaceful atmosphere for guests to unwind after a busy day of exploring or working. Located on the hotel’s top 19 floors, the Executive Lounge is an exclusive space reserved exclusively for Marriott Bonvoy™ Platinum members.
Luckily I was still a Marriott Bonvoy™ Platinum member at the time of my stay at this hotel, so I get to use the Executive Lounge. The food was great. The ambience was superb. And the view is one of its kind to oversee the Shin-Osaka station.
That view..
A drink at night and a drink in the day at the The Executive Lounge at Courtyard by Marriott at Shin-Osaka starts the right way 🙂
Our Rooms at Courtyard by Marriott at Shin Osaka
As I booked the lead-in rooms, and hoping for an upgrade, I was not hoping for too much. I am relatively pleased with the rooms and instead much happier with the fact we got Executive Lounge access. And we got free breakfast too as part of the Marriott Bonvoy membership.
Anyway as we were out much, the spacious and well-appointed guest rooms provide a sanctuary of relaxation after a day of exploring the city or attending meetings.
I believe we got the Courtyard King room but at a high floor.
Each room is thoughtfully designed with contemporary furnishings, plush bedding, and modern amenities to cater to your every need. Whether you’re looking to catch up on work at the ergonomic workstation, enjoy in-room entertainment, or unwind with a cup of tea, every comfort has been considered.
Breakfast at Courtyard by Marriott at Shin Osaka
Now I don’t usually eat breakfast at the hotel. Much less at Japan where many good food awaits you. But then it was FREE breakfast as part of the Marriott Bonvoy membership. And most importantly, the children prefer to have hotel breakfast (why huh ??).
And to be fair, it was a delicious breakfast at the hotel’s on-site restaurant, where you can savor a variety of international and local cuisine. It was a very good breakfast with very good service by the staff. We really enjoyed it so much we had it every day before we leave the hotel for activities.
Conclusion : Stay or Not
For those seeking a blend of comfort, convenience, and impeccable service, the Marriott Courtyard at Shin Osaka is the ideal choice. It was unforgettable memories as we discover the wonders of Osaka, Kyoto or Nara and then knowing that you have a welcoming and comfortable haven awaiting your return.
I would say, stay at this hotel if you want to be close to Shin-Osaka station !!
