If you’ve been living in Singapore for a while and think you’ve seen it all — the manicured parks, the busy reservoirs, the weekend crowds at MacRitchie — Hiking Coney Island might just be the quiet surprise you didn’t know you needed.
Tucked away at the northeastern tip of Punggol, Coney Island (or Pulau Serangoon, as it was once known) is one of Singapore’s best-kept secrets. No hawker centres, no playgrounds, no MRT announcements. Just 133 hectares of secondary forest, coastal views, and the occasional monitor lizard giving you the side-eye from the undergrowth.
I (and my model) recently laced up our shoes and did a full loop around the island — and honestly? It reminded me why Singapore still has the ability to genuinely surprise you.
Whether you’re a seasoned hiker looking for a casual weekend walk, or someone who just wants to unplug from the city for a few hours, this guide covers everything you need to know before you head in through those iconic green gates. Else there always other hiking trails in Singapore to go to !
Let’s go. 🌿

How to reach Coney Island
It used to be a chore but it is not longer a chore to reach Coney Island. If you are driving, you can park at the The Punggol Settlement car park.

If you can’t find a parking spot, you can go to any of the Punngol HDB car parks (e.g. car parks of Block 435B HDB Northshore or Punggol Point Cove or the car parks of 448A Punggol Way). That’s because Coney Island is now just opposite of these big group of new HDB Punggol flats.

Or even better, the new Punggol Coast MRT station brings you right to the door steps of the entrance to Coney Island, through the new

From Punggol Coast MRT station, walk out of the station to the SIT and then walk along the beautiful SIT to the entrance of Coney Island. You will pass through the magnificent Ho Bee Auditorium on you way.

Amazing Campus it is.

With car parking and public transport access, Coney Island is a great place to visit now.
The Route at Coney Island we did today
This is the route we did at Coney Island today that took us across the island, out of the island and then Lorong Halus Park Connector, to reach the beautiful Lorong Halus Red Bridge and then back along the Punggol Promenade Nature Walk back to Punggol Settlement to pick up my car ! Total distance will be disclosed at the end of this post.
But here’s the map of our walk…. and full disclosure, the ending part of the walk was by bicycle as I saw the rental bike station at Lor Halus Red Bridge and cannot help it. My model ran though… no wonder models are fit and slim and healthy.

So here it goes….
Walking from Punggol Settlement to Coney Island Park West Entrance
Hiking Coney Island starts (for me) at Punggol Settlement where I parked my car. Then walking to the Punggol Promenade Punggol Point Walk to start a short hike to Coney Island Park West Entrance.
Here’s the entrance to Punggol Promenade Punggol Point Walk…. turn right and you will see Crabs…..

In the morning, this hiking Coney Island start is beautiful …. and peaceful….

You will walk past HDB flats such as Punggol Point Cove, which we mentioned above.
Anyway a little walk and you will see the bridge to Coney Island West Entrance. The entrance that many people take photos.

You can’t miss the entrance.. this is a huge sign.. and you can see SIT in the background which I mentioned above is how you can also reach Coney Island.

And here’s Coney Island West Entrance.

From the bridge you can see the amazing new campus of SIT !

And our model is ready to go !

National Park Maps of Coney Island
Here’s a great map of Coney Island from our friends at the National Parks Board (which I want to say is my most admired public service in Singapore as they have done so much for Park Connectors lovers like me). Hiking Coney Island will be useful with this map ! Download the Coney Island map here.

They also produced a great guide to Coney Island Park too. Download it here.
Coney Island West Promenade
The Coney Island West Promenade is a beautiful place to visit once you are on the island. It is on your left when you are walking into the island, after passing the West Entrance.
A wonderful place to come, right in the dawn time (the park opens at 7am).

And our model is also very happy here too !

Or sit down and admire the view….

Hiking Coney Island Continues
After the West Promenade, you will come back to the main road of the Coney Island. You can then choose to detour once a while to the beaches or just walk along this main road.

Basically you can do two routes.. one is along the main road (THE CENTRAL of the island and that is the RED line in this map). Alternatively, you can go along the bottom part of the island (the PURPLE line in this map aka Coney Island Park Connector)…..

I walked the RED Line and it is pretty nice and rustic.. lots of trees and greenery….

The beaches are okay and I am afraid of the insects there so I did not go.

See where I am…

At this signboard, I am going to Jalan Halus…..

Our model is enjoying her walk…

As you walk towards the end of the island, you will see the new Outward Bound School construction, which is amazing…

And then you are out of Coney Island ! But that’s not the end of our hike today.
Going to Jalan Halus Park Connector
As you walk out of the Coney Island East Gate, you will see this sign after a short walk. We are going to turn RIGHT to Jalan Halus Park Connector.

There is a map of the Park Connector Network (PCN) on the entrance of this park connector.

In the bigger scheme of things, we are just a small part of the PCN. You can see that it is possible to walk to Pasir Ris Park from Coney Island too. And Hiking Coney Island can be a start to Changi East Broadwalk (I will do that one day) and then to Changi Beach Park, which we did a cycle recently to East Coast Park !

It is a short walk down the park connector (although it can be quite hot)…. On a hot morning, it can seemed forever…

You will, at the end of this walk, reached the Lorong Halus Wetland ! Which reminds me of Alexandra Canal as well as Jalan Besar Kallang River at Kallang Park Connector.

Jalan Halus Red Bridge : Instagram Hot Spot
Of course, this means you are also at the Instagram hot spot of Jalan Halus Red Bridge.

Lorong Halus Red Bridge stretches three kilometres across the Punggol Serangoon Reservoir, and it’s part of NParks’ park connector network, connecting Pasir Ris and Punggol via Pasir Ris Farmway. Quite atas sounding but actually very accessible one.
You might have to wait a while to get a clear photo ….

Standing on the bridge ah, the view really shiok. One side you see the reservoir so calm and peaceful, like nobody’s business. Other side you look up and wah — HDB blocks and construction cranes everywhere. Very Singapore right?

But that’s the thing I like lah. Nature and the city, side by side. Only in Singapore can you get this kind of contrast. And you know what? I think that’s pretty cool already. 😄
And our cool model loves it here…..

This is a highlight of our Hiking Coney Island today !! To take many photos here !!
Waterway Sunrise and then to Punggol Promenade Nature Walk
Now we arrived at Punggol Promenade Nature Walk in the late morning. I believe it is best visited at the evening before sunset !
First you arrived at Waterway Sunrise after crossing the Jalan Halus Bridge.

You will use the beautiful Sunrise Bridge as a way to get across the river to reach Punggol Promenade Nature Walk.

But take a break here … look back at the bridge and you can get some pretty nice photos of the bridge from here !
Look at this..

Another one…. Jalan Halus Red Bridge in its full glory

And our model loves it here again….

Total Walking Distance from Coney Island to Punggol Promenade
The walking part of the Hiking Coney Island today ends here as we spotted a bicycle rental station. You know.. Bike Anywhere…..
So I stopped the walking here. Total Walking Distance from Coney Island to Punggol Promenade is 5.83km and it took us 1 hour 27 minutes.

The map…

Punggol Promenade Nature Walk to Punggol Settlement
So I changed to a bicycle to cycle from Punggol Promenade Nature Walk to Punggol Settlement. While the model jogged !!

It is a pretty nice PCN to cycle (and jog….)…

Along the way you can spot Coney Island and the southern part of the island where the Park Connector is…

I would want to walk the Coney Island Park Connector one day too….

And I was not kidding that our dearest model is jogging even after such a long walk earlier… Seow Seow…

Along the way, you can say hi to our OTTOs if you see them !!

Other than ottos, it is a pretty uneventful cycle and the cycle took us back to Punggol Settlement.

And we are back at Coney Island West Entrance….

We can return our rental bicycle at the Punggol Settlement car park.
Total Cycling Distance from Punggol Promenade to the Punggol Settlement
The final part of our Hiking Coney Island trip today is cycling. The Cycling Distance from Punggol Promenade to the Punggol Settlement is 3.62 km and it took me 29 minutes (and someone to jog for 29 mins too).

And here’s the Runkeeper map…

Hiking Coney Island with a Visit to Jalan Halus Red Bridge Conclusion
It was a wonderful round about trip from Punggol Settlement to Coney Island and then to Jalan Halus Red Bridge and then back to Punggol Settlement via Punggol Promenade Nature Park. I loved it !
It was so nice to visit the Jalan Halus Red Bridge and finally be able to take some photos there too….
Highly recommended for you !!
