In my last post on Lin Heung Kui 蓮香居, I mentioned that you can visit a cafe after (or before) the dim sum meal. That cafe is Halfway Coffee Hong Kong.

Halfway Coffee Before Today
I had the opportunity a few years ago to visit this same location where Halfway Coffee is today. It was a Cha Chaan Teng. A good authentic one.
I wrote about the original cafe known as Hoi On Cafe 海安咖啡室 here in this blog on Dec 20, 2017. Unfortunately it was closed on 1st Nov 2021. Hoi On Cafe served its last customers on 30 October 2021. Read about it here which is so touching.
This is how it looks outside today. You can still see the words from the old cafe on the building. I am feeling so nostalgic when I took this photo.
Now it is a cafe

It looks like they do have a quite few branches but I am only keen on this one due to the ties to the Hoi On Cafe.
How to get to Halfway Coffee Hong Kong
I am just going to use my original map when I got to Hoi On Cafe in 2017. Because it is in the exact location. It is just a direct walk from Sheung Wan MTR and enjoy all the smell of the seafood products shops along the walk to Halfway Coffee.
You can also take the Ding Ding tram if you are a fan like me. I enjoy taking Ding Ding tram whenever I can in Hong Kong and not in a rush.
And I simply love to be taking A Tram Ride Through Chun Yeung Street 春秧街 in North Point.
The stop is Macau Ferry Terminal which is right outside the Halfway Coffee Hong Kong.
So what is so special about Halfway Coffee
Unfortunately there is no 菠蘿包, 鸡尾包,老婆饼 and the 蛋挞。Sad… ha ha.
Halfway Coffee, a charming little coffee haven nestled amidst the enchanting antique shops of Upper Lascar Row, is making waves with its unique approach to coffee culture.
A place where youngsters hang out with their laptops.
Renowned for their vintage Hong Kong porcelain cups – even their takeaway paper cups showcase these exquisite patterns – Halfway Coffee offers all the classic coffee options you love and an extensive tea selection.
Even the takeaway paper cups have these porcelain patterns. Look at them….
While the coffee is undoubtedly a treat for your taste buds, Halfway Coffee offers much more than that.
It’s a place where every corner is a photo opportunity, ensuring that your Instagram feed will be flooded with captivating shots. So, whether you’re here for the coffee or a perfect snapshot, Halfway Coffee promises an unforgettable experience !! You can check out all the instagram posts that people has tagged Halfway Coffee.
An example:
You can still find traces of Hoi On Cafe
Since I am not much of a food/coffee writer and more an emotional person, it is for me to spot some of the traces of Hoi On Cafe still in this new place.
I am not sure what this photo is about but I assume got to do with Hoi On Cafe owner. HA HA.
Okay, this one for sure 🙂
And in the toilet (pretty cool.. visit it), are those seats backs from the previous cafe or years ago ? I dont know. I assumed. I miss old Cha Chaan Teng like Mido Cafe too.
Conclusion : To go or Not To go
I guess if you are around the area and/or going to Lin Heung Kui 蓮香居 or anywhere in Sheung Wan, you can find a good reason to go and have a nice coffee (I enjoyed my iced latte a lot) and also just hang around and have a relaxing day.
Hong Kong is a fun place if you are just there for cafes too.
