One very happy thing I did this trip was to ride the Ding Ding Tramway. I took it from Central to Wan Chai see Golden Bauhinia Square (yes yes.. very tourist-like).
It was great fun. The weather was cool. We managed to grab a seat at the very front so I had a great view. I only wish the trip was MUCH MUCH longer. I would really love to take it again.
The tram ride is only HKD 2 (about Singapore 40 cents !) and you can ride it all the way and drop off any time. The same price for any stop. The trams start from Western District and go through Sheung Wan, Central, Admiralty, Wan Chai, Happy Valley, Causeway Bay, North Point, Quarry Bay and finally Shau Kei Wan. Basically the whole stretch of the northern part of Hong Kong Island. It has its own dedicated tracks which is a rarity in land scarce Hong Kong.
You can use the wonderful Octopus Card and you get up the tram FROM THE BACK. When you are ready to align, you get out of the tram FROM THE FRONT and then pay the HKD 2 via the Octopus Card or Cash.
It is a most wonderful feeling as the weather in Hong Kong is so nice and then you can see all the places in Hong Kong that are really special and local. Very nice. You can see a great video at this Discover Hong Kong web site and also see the different suggested places. I acutally use the route maps at the official Hong Kong Tramways Limited web site and print them out and paste them on my travel notebook to help me travel around.
Please try this when you are in Hong Kong Island. If I do this again, I will take a video of my journey !
Hi, I will like to take this tram in my coming trip.
Where can I get the ticket and where is the pick up point?
Please email me [email protected], Thanks.
Regards,
Michelle
