Quanjude Roast Duck 全聚德 is a very famous restaurant chain in Beijing that serves the famous Beijing (Peking) Duck. The branch that I went to was the one at Chaoyang area of San Yuan Qiao 三元桥。
Check out the TWO videos I have at the end of this blog post.
The very famous signboard of the 全聚德.
The RED signboard of the Quanjude 全聚德 Roast Peking Duck is pretty easy to spot once you are near to the restaurant.
The Quanjude 全聚德 Roast Peking Duck has been around since 1864 !! That is more than 150 years !
I was staying at the Westin Beijing Chaoyang and it was about 10 mins walk away. If you stay at the Hilton Chaoyang, it is almost literally at your door step.
The rather grand traditional Chinese looking entrance and the famous DUCK mascot 🙂
The hotel’s excellent concierge desk provided us a printout on how to walk from the hotel to the restaurant. Westin Beijing Chaoyang is my go to hotel whenever I travel to Beijing for work.
The restaurant itself does looked a little dated. And very traditional looking. Look at the amazing lightning.. rows of them. It was quite packed when I visited it and had to settle for a table near to the toilet……
FYI that the restaurant did accept foreign credit cards so that was good for us, the foreigners…. (And trust me, not many places do that in China. You either have WeChat Pay or cash.. or just trouble…..).
Peking Duck and the Slicing and Preparation to Serve
The chef arrives with The Peking Duck… and proceeded to slice and dice the Peking duck rather expertly into many plates and different styles and different parts etc….. all served to us in beautiful plates. He was very skilful. The knife strokes were smooth and fast and quick.
Slicing the Peking duck for us….. while I, the ever tourist, kept filming 🙂
Beautifully done … pretty and imagining that I am some China Emperor having the meal of his life.. 🙂
I also have a YouTube video on how the Peking Duck was sliced and diced to serve us. With nice music 😉 Enjoy it okay… it is quite fast as I have speed up the viewing speed….
More photos of the Peking duck on my table that night…. look at the colour and the skin….
And then there was this soup from the duck .. it was rather plain..
Eating Peking duck with Spring Roll Sheets
We were also given a set of spring roll sheets which can be consumed with the Peking duck too.
I have another Youtube video where this Zeh Zeh showed you how to eat the Peking Duck meat with the spring roll sheet. Watch it now and enjoy the Peking Duck the proper way.
Ha. Kidding. Just eat however you want it. Most important, it must taste good. And I think it tasted rather good to me.
So was it worth the visit
It was an okay experience. Worth a try if you never eat Peking Duck before. It was tasty and good and really nice to try. But as a whole, it is one visit and never again. I will try other Peking duck elsewhere, I guess.
