Labrador Park MRT to West Coast Park : Disappointing Walk

I did a 6km walk from Labrador Park MRT to West Coast Park.

It was an interesting walk as it is not that well defined, some of the walk is along the road and then suddenly into the new Pasir Panjang Park and then back to the road side before ending up at the West Coast Park.

You can actually just start at Pasir Panjang MRT station or the Pasir Panjang Food Centre. But as I finished my last hiking article from Hort Park to Kent Ridge MRT and took the MRT to Labrador Park, I thought I would then carry on from Labrador MRT to the West Coast Park.

Actually I did a very long walk from Labrador MRT to Berlayer Broadwalk Creek to Harbour Front (yes) and then back from Harbour Front to Labrador Park and the whole Labrador Park. That was one long walk and I will have to find time to write about that one day :).

For now, let’s focus on Labrador Park MRT to West Coast Park !

Starting from Labrador Park MRT : Where to Park

Tempting as it is, there is a car park just next to Labrador Park MRT. That is the private car park for customers of the Labrador Furniture City. I parked there for five mins but seeing the number of “wheel clamp” notices there, I decided that, for the peace of mind (and that’s what hiking is for, right) not to test my fate πŸ™‚

So I parked at the parking lots opposite of Labrador MRT. If you use Google Map and search for Beecroft Animal Specialist & Emergency Hospital, you can probably see where it is. The entrance to this industrial estate is along Alexandra Road, opposite ARC (Alexandra Retail Centre).

A map shows it all.

Go up the bridge…

On the bridge, you can see where we are going next. You can see the RED pavement just outside the new building.

From Labrador Park MRT to Pasir Panjang MRT

The walk from Labrador Park MRT to Pasir Panjang MRT is pretty uneventful. It is actually a walk along the road so I am not sure it is too exciting a walk. I suspect in the future (and the press releases seemed to say so) there will be a more coastal way from Labrador Park MRT to Pasir Panjang MRT.

Nevertheless, I am quite new to this area so it is a nice way to discover. There are quite a few buildings that seemed to be catering to domestic workers in Singapore. Quite interesting. There is also a bicycle cafe (Blue Balls Bike Cafe) along the way.

A little further, you will see Pasir Panjang MRT and you can join into the Pasir Panjang Park just behind the Pasir Panjang MRT or Pasir Panjang Food Centre. That’s so simple and NOT exciting at all.

BUT (BUT BUT BUT) that’s not the right way to me. Here’s another way to get to Pasir Panjang Park. The start of Pasir Panjang Park.

The part where the GREEN GREEN part starts πŸ™‚

We want to really start at the very start of the Pasir Panjang Park. Not join in the middle of the Park. So, instead, somewhere along the way, BEFORE the Blue Balls Bike Cafe, opposite HarbourSide Building 2, there is a small road. Take that road.

Walking down this road, you will see MOE Labrador Outdoor Adventure Centre. You are on the right track.

And you will see this entrance. Go into the area and turn right…

So you will walk along the park connector paths and along the way, you will enjoy a peaceful walk with just two containers to distract you.

Carry on the walk. It is a pretty long walk with nothing to engage you but just construction panels on the left. But it is nice nevertheless. Just walk and listen to music.

After that, the next Point of Interest is the second Container Box exhibit. This one has slightly more interesting things. A Ship Anchor. A Telegraph. And a CANNON !

This is where my confusion starts..

I crossed the road, and then walk to this familiar looking park path, right ?

Where are we going now
Where are we going now

And then this…

Where are we going now
Where are we going now

And then this…

Where are we going now

And into the main road ????!!!

Where is the PARK
Where is the PARK

I looked around a lot but could not find a way to a park…..

But It does NOT lead me to West Coast Park

According to this news article, this park where I do a walk from Labrador MRT to West Coast Park is supposed to lead you all the way to West Coast Park. I don’t find it that way. Am I wrong ? Let me know.

Instead, half way, I am walking along the road. Granted it is a well protected road side walk that gives you the feeling of it being part of the route (e.g you can imagine cycling along it peacefully). BUT IT IS NO PARK WALK. It is a pavement.

According to this diagram, there is a park way ? The 2.2km section. I believe I have walked the first part (marked as blue coloured 1 in this diagram).

Where is blue coloured 2 ????

Let me show you how it was to me.. tell me if I am wrong πŸ™‚

Then this.. but this is good, looks more like a path than just a pavement…

And then it was this way all the way ….. along the Port of Pasir Panjang on your left and then the Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre on my right…

Where is the PARK ? Is there a PARK ? πŸ™‚

Reaching the start of West Coast Park

A welcome sight… I have reached the start of West Coast Park. West Coast Park itself (and I only know this today) is made up of two parts. We are at the start of the West Coast Park. I have never been to this park. I always go to the playground and McDonalds part of West Coast Park πŸ™‚
