Kam Wah Cafe 金華冰廳 in Mongkok Hong Kong

Was in Hong Kong for a quick few days and went to this Kam Wah Cafe 金華冰廳 at Mongkok area in Hong Kong. This is a traditional cafe that served the usual stuff but I always love such cafes. Kam Wah Cafe 金華冰廳 is well known for their polo buns 菠蘿包 and egg tarts 港式蛋挞.

You know the ones I love to go in Hong Kong included these such as Kam Fung Restaurant 金鳳茶餐廳, 科記咖啡餐室, the famous Honolulu Coffee Shop 檀島咖啡餅店, Lan Fang Yuan 蘭芳園, 金翡翠茶餐廳 at 西環, 祥利冰室, 胜香园大排当, and everyone’s all time favourite, the Mido Cafe.

Or if you prefer more upcoming and modern cafes, I can recommend Halfway Coffee Hong Kong too.

How to get to Kam Wah Cafe 金華冰廳

Take the MTR to Mong Kong station and exit at B3. Cross a few roads (including a bridge) and you will be there. This is the way if you are coming from Tsim Sha Tsui, such as where I am staying at the Hyatt Regency Tsim Sha Tsui.

Alternatively, you can see on the map below that you can exit at B2 but this is the Prince Edward MTR station. So if you are coming from the north, it is slightly faster. E.g if you are staying at the airport area such as my favourite Silveri Hong Kong-MGallery hotel.

The official address is 47 Bute St, Prince Edward, Hong Kong.

But never mind, I am here only for polo buns 菠蘿包 and egg tarts 港式蛋挞….

Kam Wah Cafe’s signature Polo Bun is a must-try. The warm, slightly crispy bun with a slab of cold, creamy butter nestled inside creates a delightful contrast of textures and flavors. The sweetness of the bun paired with the savory, melting butter is a sensation that will leave your taste buds dancing with joy.

To complete this indulgence, pair it with a classic Hong Kong Milk Tea. Its smooth, rich flavor perfectly complements the Polo Bun, balancing out the buttery richness and leaving you craving more.

As usual, Kam Wah Cafe 金華冰廳 embodies the authentic Hong Kong Cha Chaan Teng experience, where the service is no-nonsense and fast and quick. But that is how life is in Hong Kong.. if you want a leisurely cafe where people treat you like king, then such cafes are not meant for you.

The unspoken rule here: know what you want to order before you sit down, or you might find the patience of the staff wearing thin. But of course, no one is as bad as the famous Australia Dairy Company 澳洲牛奶公司. Not been there for a while.. maybe next trip I will go again 🙂

But to be fair, I had a good time. The service was good and fast and to the point. Perhaps cause we do speak good Cantonese too :p.

The place is always bustling, so be prepared to share tables with fellow diners as the servers usher you to your seat. It’s all part of the unique, fast-paced charm that makes Kam Wah Cafe an essential stop on your Hong Kong culinary adventure.

Conclusion : To go or NOT to go

Go..if you are in the area…

Enjoy !!
