Aston AP200 Media Player
Bought this for the bedroom so that miss can watch MKV videos at night or RMVB serials before she sleep. No choice. Nowadays videos seemed to be primarily in MKV format (for 720p and 1080p versions) and there are not many choices to play both MKV, DivX as well as the most important RMVB. I do have 2 AC Ryan HD PlayOn already so wanted to try something else.
Funnily the box I bought has two different covers. First it was a white cover then when I open it, it is a black one. The prices on the 2 boxes are different too 🙂
It does not come with HDMI cable so I had to supply my own. At first when using HDMI RAW or HDMI LPCM to my Panny TV, the sound was quite soft. Upgrading to the latest firmware solved it. It is now loud and clear. The user interface seemed pretty cool and very nice to use as compared to AC Ryan. The small fan is pretty noisy. In fact, the exterior looks horrible due to that small hump to house the fan ! Luckily, the whole set is quite small (use a 2.5inch HDD) and so very suitable for the bedroom. One thing to note is that other than the HDMI and PC connection, the rest of the connections are not the standard ones. By that I mean when using composite or component cables, you have to use their versions (unlike AC Ryan where you can use the standard composite RED/WHITE cables or component GREEN/BLUE/RED cables). Theirs is a RED/WHITE cable on one end and then a mini plug on the other.
