I am always very slow to the hardware game and this time is the world of networking. Currently I am using an ISP-supplied Netgear R6220 Router as the router (but I don’t use its wireless capabilities but instead a Linksys Velop Mesh System).
The router is not bad and it worked well with the Velop system (available at Amazon.sg) but I wanted to play around with Ubiquiti products. So I got myself a cheap Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X this time round.
I got the normal version and not the SFP version.
UNBOXING !!
The box arrived a little damaged. But the product itself is fine.
Hello baby… Edge Router X
Save the environment. No manual. No Quick Start Guide. All online. Using a QR Code to scan.
The plug…. Don’t like this type of plug head

Hi baby… hope we will get along ๐
Setting it up videos
There will be some minor steps involved in setting up the router and I used the online guide as well as I watched two videos to help me in setting this up (I know, I am really noob at such stuff…)… this video is good..
And I will also be testing out the Hardware Offloading command line as per this video too….
I hope my visit to the Ubiquiti world will not be short
If all goes well and I get familiar with the products, I will also be looking at replacing my Linksys Mesh system with Ubiquiti access points such as the NanoHD and or UAP-AC-HD. Or buy some Unifi switches ๐
Photos of set up
Finally got time to set it up. So here are just two photos of the EdgeRouter X with ViewQwest modem. My home came with built in networking so it is pretty convenient to just plug in.
Now if only my cable management skills are better.
