Setting up the Yamaha YSP 2200 soundbar is easy. The fun part is the calibration. The system has an automatic calibration mode (as well as manual one) for you to tune the YSP 2200 to suit your environment.
Firstly, you set up the connection between the subwoofer and the soundbar amp via a standard 2 piece wire:
You do need to link the soundbar to your TV via the RCA yellow cable. U cannot use HDMI for the calibration.
After calibration is done, you can then use the HDMI as per normal soundbar.. but for calibration purposes, only the RCA cable to TV works.
Here comes the fun part. The parts for the calibration are a special microphone and a uniquely cupboard stand.
This is how the cupboard stand looks. You place the stand at the sitting location of the audience and the microphone on it.
The other end goes into the amp:
And then you calibrate via the menu in the TV (which you had hooked up via the YELLOW RCA cable):
You have to get out of the room when the calibration goes on. You also have to remove things that are not normally there (e.g the carton box where the YSP2200 arrived in ! HA HA).. Just try to set up the room as best to the exact condition as when you are actually using the set.
The calibration will lots of interesting noise that the amp makes and recorded by the microphone (at the sitting point) which helps to decide how the best settings are.
Here’s a video of a typical calibration:
And the results:
So far, I am really impressed and enjoying the sound quality from this soundbar. I think it will get better as the unit gets more used with time !! Good buy !! I had the chance to play HD Audio through a full BluRay rip of a Chinese movie. It was brilliant.
The only thing I dun really like is that for the price I paid, there was no DVD or BluRay Player or even a Tuner .. perhaps the idea is to concentrate on keeping the unit slim and doing only 1 job well (playing the right sound).
Hi do u have to turn the tv’s inbuilt speaker volume down when using ?
Yes of course. But should not have sound coming out anyway since it is YSP that is making the noise to calibrate
Hey i heard, that there is a problem with the sub, when not placed directly under the soundbar. yours is set up on the side of the tv rack, isn’t it? do you recognize any problems?
Never heard of such a problem. Mine no issue 🙂
does your tv have to have arc hdmi for soundbar to work with blu ray player
Nope…
thanks
Hello, I’m trying to find the right calibrator mic. My unit didn’t have one when I bought it. Can you or anyone give me the model number of the mic? Yamaha has several different ones.
I have a cabinet with shelving, and glass doors below the top which is where the tv will be placed. When the sound bar is connected, directly in front of the tv, where is the best spot for the sub?
like any sub, there are good places to place in the area that is most suitable for your own. You can google for things like “best place to place sub woofer”. For me it is as close to where you sit as possible (so that you can the thump !!)
