I have set up my Linksys Velop as a bridge (as I always use the ViewQWest router as a modem/router).

So here’s the set up. After you have opened the box, first thing to do is to download the app to your phone šŸ™‚

You don’t have to set up an account now. It will happen later…

Choose the first one, obviously:

I chose the 2nd one:

Now plug it your first Velop (the master node.. the one that is linked to the internet, the one that is linked to your router with a cable, the master bloodline…)

And now the worrying begins..

To make you feel less lonely as you wait for the purple colour, I decided to take a photo as I was waiting…

The magic moment.. more important than when your girlfriend holds your hand or you graduated finally… the Linksys Velop has been found !!!

Set up a Linksys account. It will be useful when you are not at home and want to check on the Linksys:

Name your wifi. Make it smart and don’t let the world know you have a Velop (e.g. You might like VirusWifi or something).

Ok.This step is so so important.. You want to name your node so that you can know which one is which later (u know.. a mesh comes with a few similar looking nodes…. it is nice to know which one is in the toilet and which one is in your nosy tenant room)…

Ok..Unless you are mad, you do need another node.. I guess…

Even gives you a guide on where to place your next node.. obviously not too far and not too near….

Adding it to the network officially:

And I added one more node to the master bedroom (and be wifi-ed every night when I sleep. Perhaps one day I will die of wifi cancer)

Set up auto updated of firmware.. nice:

You probably have some firmware updates immediately upon using it:

Now where is the set up for BRIDGE mode as you promised !! We do that now..

In your application, log on to the wifi network (you know, you set up an account earlier.. use that to log on to your account)

Choose Internet Settings:

See bridge mode right at the bottom ?

So many things you cannot do in a bridge mode:

  1. hi what kind of speeds are u getting? i saw your years ago post about bto home networking where u used an Asus router as an access point. Iā€™m curious to know what made u make the switch to mesh? were there wifi dead spots with that set up? why not get a newer model or more powerful Asus router to replace the access point?

    • Ha thanks for reading so in depth.

Two reasons. One: I am itchy backside. Wanted to try MESH. Two: I was moving my place so got excuse to do so šŸ™‚
