I stayed recently at the Hilton Garden Inn Hong Kong Mongkok. By my normal style, I don’t really like to stay at Kowloon (I prefer Hong Kong Island). But due to the Hong Kong protests going on that weekend in Hong Kong Island, I decided to stay at the Kowloon area before proceeding to Shenzhen Marriott the next day.
Location Location Location
The location of the hotel is probably its best feature. It is at Soy Street in Mongkok and just a few minutes walk to Mongkok MTR station. Of course, it is not as near as my previous hotel I stayed at this area, the beautiful Cordis Hotel but the price point is different.
How to get to Hilton Garden Inn Mongkok from Hong Kong Airport
I took the wonderful Hong Kong Airport Express to Kowloon stop and then took a cab to the hotel. It is not expensive that way. A day or two before my stay, the hotel emailed me the transportation options which is a nice gesture.
The Neighbourhood Area
The Hilton Garden Inn Hong Kong Mongkok is at Soy Street, and it is right smack into the Mongkok residential area.
So you see buildings like this. Readers of Patnotebook know that I love the authentic and old days Hong Kong and staying here is fun.
The view of the hotel entrances at night from Soy Street
Only thing is late at night, there are some “touts for girls” which you might be a little uncomfortable if you a single guy. I am fine. I just say “no thanks…” 🙂
The Lobby of Hilton Mongkok
It is a small hotel (in a small area in expensive Hong Kong) so the lobby is small but nicely done up.
A nice touch for me was that they gave me a voucher to get some food and drinks at the lobby. I got my favourite Hong Kong food 🙂
The Garden View Room
I got one of the best room for the night (due to my Hilton status which I got as part of the hotel benefits from the American Express Platinum Card). It is on the highest floor and it faces the garden…..
Till you see the Expressway. Ha.
The room itself is very small. Really small. Not much space but then it is just for one night. And besides, in Hong Kong, it is best to enjoy the world outside 🙂
Walking to the room down the corridor, you can see how cramped this area is…
Anyway some photos of the room…
The toiletries… 🙂
Mongkok Neighbourhood Information A-plenty
I love how the hotel thoughtfully provides so much information about Mongkok and its neighbour. Including history of the area and most importantly, the food food food :).
Check these out..
Conclusion
For the price of a room in downtown Hong Kong (Mongkok is as near as you can get to Nathan Road) and in a fantastic area (that’s for me, who loves the food around Mongkok area).
For example, in the next morning, I took a short walk to Yau Ma Tei MTR station (to get to somewhere that I will cover in my next blog post). Along the way, at Pitt Street, is my favourite food place.
My favourite breakfast !!
Of course, you can also drop by Mido Cafe at Temple Street or the infamous Australia Dairy Company (as known as sour-faced-unhappy-waiters food place. HA HA.).
The area around the hotel is great so I would recommend it if you like Mongkok !
I love Hong Kong !! 🙂
