About These Earbuds
Way before, many years ago, my favourite earphones before Apple AirPods were the Bose QC20i Noise Cancelling Earphones. They were so expensive (then for my wallet !) but I have many fond memories of them especially on long flights. So when they came out with this new (cheaper in year 2026) version, I had to try it out.
The Bose Noise Cancelling Wired Earbuds bring back the simplicity of a wired connection with active noise cancellation and a USB-C plug.
Here’s a quick look at the main details:
- They pull power straight from your phone or laptop through the USB-C connection. You’ll never have to worry about a dead battery again.
- The QuietControl technology gives you three distinct listening modes. Quiet mode blocks out distractions, while Aware mode lets in background noise.
- They include three sizes of silicone eartips and two stability wing sizes. This helps you find a snug, secure fit for daily wear.
- The built-in remote lets you adjust volume, skip tracks, and toggle noise cancellation. It also has a microphone for clear calls.
- They have an IPX4 rating, so they easily handle sweat and light rain. They also come with a small zippered storage case.

How to change the ANC in Bose Noise Cancelling Wired Earbuds
There is no screen. There is no app. So how do you change the ANC settings for the Bose Noise Cancelling Wired Earbuds ? Apparently this is how you do it 🙃
To switch off Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) on your Bose Noise Cancelling Wired Earbuds:
- Use the in-line remote/keypad that hangs on the cable.
- Press and hold the Multi-function button (the middle button on the “remote”).
- Listen to the voice prompt as it cycles through the available modes (Quiet, Aware, and Off). You can hear it pretty clearly ! 😉
- Release the button when you hear “Off” to turn off active noise cancellation and use the earbuds as a standard wired pair. Use “Qute” to turn on the full active noise cancellation (ANC) mode.
