The American Express Platinum Card comes with an annual fee of $1,712 (and hence affectionally known in some Telegram groups as 1712). Among the various good reasons to get it, it also comes with a 1 night at the St Regis/W Sentosa Singapore (which I covered in a separate blog post) and a 3D/2N stay at selected Banyan Tree or Mandarin Oriental hotels, or 2D/1N at Capella Singapore.

Due to scheduling issues (you know, typical of busy. working people with school going kids), I ended up in 3D/2N stay at Banyan Tree Bintan. We upgraded to a Oceanview Infinity Pool Villa Two Bedroom and thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality and stay at this resort.
One of the things we did was to enjoy the “floating breakfast”. It is not restricted to breakfast actually but can be lunch and dinner too. But breakfast still seemed to the most logical one 🙂
You make the order to the resort the day before and let them know what you want for the breakfast. E.g. Egg Benedict was what we ordered. The cost was about SGD50 for one person. And one person’s share is all that is needed as (1) the serving is pretty big (2) we already have free breakfast as part of the AMEX deal and no, as logical Singaporeans, we are NOT going to miss that (3) and let’s face it…. the whole purpose was just for that Instagram posting (so one person’s share is more than enough).
The next morning, the “floating breakfast” came and I was initially pretty shocked by how big the float is.
The food itself of course came warm and nice in a basket. All the food were wrapped up including the drinks.
The server will arrange the food in a very nice way inside the float and then put the float onto your villa’s swimming pool. The final product is shown here but honestly it was not easy for him to do so. In the end, two of us have to float the basket to avoid making a mess. You can check out the video at the end of this post.
The food was not important. We just spent the next 10 mins taking photos and videos… all for social media reasons 🙂
And oh, of course, the need to take the floating breakfast all the way to the edge of the infinity pool. I have half the mind to push it over and see what happens… 🙂
Cheers !!
When can we start eating !?! ?!!
No. Now we have leave it alone and take even more photos.. will this just drop over the infinity pool ? ….. I was waiting for it to happen.
Ok. Finally we can eat it… actually it was the son who just watched us doing all these photo taking and decided it was time for his breakfast. He has no interest in your Instagram or Facebook etc.
Thank god for him 🙂
I did have time to make a short video clip of the adventure of trying to “float” this floating breakfast too 🙂
I will write about this stay in Bintan Banyan Tree and also the wonderful stay at W Hotel Sentosa soon too.
