Bangkok Tuptim Shrine : Many Wooden Penis Statues

One of the side excursion of my Bangkok trip last week was to visit the Tuptim Shrine in Wireless Road in Bangkok.

Why and what do I do that for ? Well, just before my trip, I chanced upon an article in a blog about this little known shrine which helped him and his wife to get a second child. It was quite interesting as I hoped to have a child too. So decided to visit it.

Got our taxi driver to drive us to the Swissotel Nai Lert Park which is where this shrine is at. At the hotel, the employees were kind enough to guide our taxi driver to the shrine which is located at a rather secluded part of the hotel grounds.

The entrance to the Shrine has many cute children statues which I can see many vendors selling at the floating market.

Once inside the shrine, you will see a large black pillar beside the spirit house which is in the shape of a giant penis ! And all around the shrine are many sticks and wood and statues that are all craved around the shape of penises; all shapes and sizes – fat ones, thin ones, tall ones, small ones.

The shrine is located inside the car park garage of the Swissotel Nai Lert Park in Bangkok. The hotel itself is on the same road as the Swiss Embassy. Once you reached the main gate of the hotel, you can go walk past a nice and big shrine but that’s the not actual shrine. Instead, you walked into the car park on the left side of the gate and walk deep through the car park to finally reached the humble shrine at the end of the car park. Ask the employees if you cannot find your way. It is not easy 🙂

Offered some incense sticks and flowers to the god as well as placing a black curved penis wood piece that was bought from the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market.

This shrine is probably not on the to do list of many Bangkok tourists (even our taxi driver have not heard of this place) but I guess, it brought a nice personal special touch to the trip. Made my Bangkok trip a more interesting one.
