In Patnotebook.com, the 林村許願樹 is one of the most popular article. This wishing tree is based in 林村 but today, I am going to share with you another wishing tree at 元朗大樹下天后古廟 (web site and facebook). It is also a very popular TVB serial location (ha). In fact, I think I saw it quite often on TVB and mistaken it for 林村許願樹 till quite recently…
Let’s see where it was once shown in 最美麗的第七天, which is one of my favourite TVB serials
So where is this wishing tree ? It looks different from 林村許願樹. Luckily for us, at the end of the episode, there was a reference to it:
So it is 元朗大樹下天后古廟 ! Now that makes our search easier… a quick google found its homepage and more importantly, a little more digging found this: “於元朗市大棠路乘73專線小巴直達”. So you can take mini bus 73 to the location. A search for mini bus 73 found the route map (Hong Kong transport rocks) at this page. Google map transport route also confirmed this:
Cool, we have all the tools to get us there.. If it looks daunting, don’t… it is NOT difficult at all.. with my limited Cantonese skills, I managed to get there all by myself. With this article, you can get there yourself too. Let’s start.
First, get yourself to 朗屏站 MTR station which is at the far end of New Territories in Hong Kong 🙂 I circled it in BLUE. You will also notice I circle another station 錦上路 (Kam Sheung Road Station) in Green, which we will discuss at the end of the blog post.
Go to Exit C and walk down the stairs…..
When you reach the bottom stairs, walk and turn right.. and wait towards the Mini Bus Station to the end.. how’s that for a guide…:)
Okie..Okie.. I show you exact route 🙂 Follow the blue colour route 🙂
There ! You are at Mini Bus 73 terminal at 朗屏站. Wait for the bus, board it (Octopus Card accepted) and tell the driver you want to go to 元朗大樹下天后古廟 (or just print this and show him this).
No kidding. I just showed him and tell him I want to go there and let me know when to drop 🙂 This is because I am not familiar with the place and the route and it is not that easy to spot the temple and might as well just tell the bus driver 🙂 And because it is a mini bus and have no up/down bus stop. It can stop anywhere.. and hence, right outside 元朗大樹下天后古廟 🙂
Bus 73 ! 🙂
The bus will take you to 元朗 mini bus terminal but dun worry, you do not have to go down the bus. Just sit in the bus as the drivers changed shift (and hence make sure you inform the new driver that you want to go to 元朗大樹下天后古廟). The bus will then go through the busy 元朗 South estate (which is where this patnotebook article is based) and then finally it will depart the area and move to a slightly more rural part.. That’s where you need to be aware that the temple is approaching. Watch out for this and you know you are on the right track:
And here we are at 元朗大樹下天后古廟 !
(This photo is taken at the opposite road to 元朗大樹下天后古廟. You can see a road just in front of 元朗大樹下天后古廟. That’s where the bus 73 will drive past and stop. Remember Mini Bus can stop anywhere…)
And here we are… WHY in TVB shows, there are no fence around the tree and here we have ! 🙂 🙂
More photos of the wishing tree and temple 元朗大樹下 天后古廟. It is, of course, a 天后廟 which is very popular in Hong Kong and so do make some prayers and donate some oil money 🙂
Earlier on, in the MTR map, I pointed out the 錦上路 (Kam Sheung Road Station). The reason is you might want to also consider going to 林村許願樹 then this 元朗大樹下天后古廟. To do that, you can take 64K from outside 林村許願樹 to 元朗 but to drop off at 錦上路 (Kam Sheung Road Station). From there you can go to 朗屏站 MTR by train. You should not take the bus 64K all the way to the end as it will reach the area described in this blog post on Yuen Lang South and not the 元朗 MTR. But even if you want to go Yuen Lang South, it is actually a very nice place to eat and shop and from there, you have two options. Option one is to take the light rail (sort of a mini MTR) to Yuen Lang MTR (see this blog post) or, better still, to search for the Yuen Lang Mini bus terminal described in the middle of this blog post (where the drivers changed shift..).
Hope this helps you to get to the 元朗大樹下天后古廟 which is, of course, nice on its own and for best wishes and also it is a TVB location and hence 港劇迷朝聖地 !!
