Just back from one trip to Hong Kong. Not too lovely weather (too hot for me in terms of HK weather.. HK always give me the cool or cold feeling) but nevertheless, it is still nice time still to see my favorite city and its wonderfully dressed residents (boots and all…).
And as usual, every trip to Hong Kong brings the need/desire/plan to try to locate one of the TVB locations that I see on TV. This trip is no different… through careful planning (and some mad rushing around), I did manage to visit quite a fair bit of TVB locations and will share all of them in the next few blog posts. Some really required a fair bit of travel 🙂
Is it very stupid ? I never thought so but some people did and told me so….. but do you know that it is actually a hot topic for some foreigners (like me) who would make special effort to visit TVB locations when they are in Hong Kong. There is even a book on it :). Or a whole blog on it… Or yet another excellent blog……Or in the words of some netizens.. it is called 港劇迷朝聖地 !!
Let’s start with the 2011/2012 outstanding show, Ghetto Justice or 怒火街頭. In this series based on the poorer part of Hong Kong known as 深水埗 Sham Shui Po, the friends always meet in one of the road side cafe known as 老友記. But is the show really based in Sham Shui Po ? Now it is not that hard to find out where this store is if you know the name of the shop. However, I did not know (at that time) so I went through the following loop to find out.. silly 🙂
Anyway, let’s review…
Here’s some screens from the TVB shows
So how did I try to find out where this is.. first there was this episode where Moylie Wu 胡杏兒 was walking to the cafe from across the street and the name of the shop is very clearly seen:
A bit of google and indeed, it is in 深水埗. In fact the whole address is there: 155b Kwei Lin st, 深水埗, 九龍
In the same episode, Moylie and Kevin (鄭嘉穎) was walking down the street after having breakfast in the cafe and yet another shop name was visible:
Again, some google and the whole address is here: 48 Un Chau St, Sham Shui Po
With one point, you can go wrong and might find it hard to find but with 2 points, it is much easier.. so after having two addresses, it is easy to roughly point the exact location. A look at google map showed the exact exit (Exit D2) to be used at 深水埗 Sham Shui Po MTR 🙂
(The green circle is Clue A and the RED circle is Clue B).
So off to 深水埗 Sham Shui Po MTR upon my arrival in Hong Kong after a quick check in to the hotel…. i arrived at 5 am but had to stay in the airport till 7 am to grab a SIM Card (more on that later) and then after a quick shower at the hotel, it is off to 深水埗 Sham Shui Po MTR !!
When you come out of Exit D, you will see “Golden Computer Arcade” on your left and the whole street ahead of you.. Walk up a few junctions and you will reach 老友記快餐
Indeed, I see the Clue B (the Currency Exchange Shop) in real life.. I am getting close..
And then Clue A (the Curtain Shop) in real life too.. Oh my god, I am so excited..
So SO SOOO Exciting. I am going to see another TVB location.. I AM SO EXCITED…
EXCEPT… (of course it has to happen.. stupid me.. never do enough research..)
I arrived too early.. IT IS CLOSED !!!!!! It only open at 11 am and ready for business at noon… I could only watch but not eat 🙁 🙁 🙁
It looked exactly like in the TVB show though… so exciting.. So I very happy any way to find out where and see for myself the real cafe where one of my favourite TVB shows were shot 🙂
Even the “bra shop” is real too 🙂
So no choice, I can only take many photos to share with you (but not the food.. sigh) as I need to rush to many other places in Hong Kong on this day..
I will be back one day for the food and the pantyhose milk tea 絲襪奶茶 !!
