Went to buy a portable hard disk today (and not sure what for when I finally got home with it … crazy…). I went to Challenger and looked through the racks. There were the usual choices like the very chio Seagate Go Agent or Western Digital Passport or Samsung or even Rangers and Trek etc.

I finally bought Ovation 320GB Ultra Slim Pocket Drive.

Ovation 320GB Ultra Slim Pocket Drive.

Surprised myself too. But the reasons were quite a few.

Firstly it is the cheapest among all its range (sub $100).

Secondly, there is an offer now in Challenger that gives a free carrying pouch (other brands sell their for around SGD20). There is also some free backup software that I dun really care about.

Thirdly, I was bought over by the wording that the hard disk can be removed. When I read it, I was thinking that this is quite unique (at least among those around it). Most of the hard disks that are sold by giants like Seagate, Western Digital etc are all fixed inside the enclosures. It is quite a task to remove them (not sure if even you want to do that. You might break the enclosures). Here is one that I could potentially remove in the future and replaced with a bigger hard disk. In fact, as I am using it now, I am wondering if I should replace the 320GB with a 80GB that I have now. I don’t need that much space in a portable hard disk and can use 320GB in my media player ! Such is the flexibility of a case like that. And surprise, when I open it, it is a WD Scorpio Blue 320 GB inside…..

It comes with 5 years warranty in Singapore.
