The latest version of the comes now with 300ppi and 8GB of storage (and even the 32GB). It is now Amazon’s latest 6” display with e-ink and has a built-in light, a super good 300ppi screen, the optimized font technology and a 16-level gray scale.
And Amazon claimed it is their thinnest, lightest yet.
An improvement all the way.
And it is water proof too.
My Kindle Experience Over the Years
Over the years, I have many Kindle. Here’s one 8 years ago. Here’s one 7 years ago. And the last one as 5 years ago which was my last one (as the age of Smartphone takes over and I started to read Kindle books on my iPhone and iPad).
Over the years, the Kindles above have all served me well and I have enjoyed reading on them. But the Apple smartphone and the bright iPad have made it more convenient to read (easier to reach for your smart phone) but also have been a consistent distraction to the reading process too.
Ordering of Amazon Paperwhite to Singapore
Most importantly, unlike in the past, it is now possible to ship the to Singapore directly and with Amazon Prime SG at a low price, even the shipping is free.
So in Dec 2019, I ordered one directly from the Amazon web site and shipped it to Singapore. No middle men anymore. No comgateway with USA address and then ship to Sinagpore. No more these nonsense.
I ordered on 29th Dec 2019. The product shipped out on 30th Dec 2019. And it arrived in Singapore on 4th Jan 2020 (a Saturday) and then was delivered to my place on 6th Jan 2020 (Monday).
That is pretty fast !!
The Unboxing Process
Photos of the unboxing process. See how much longer the package is compared to the actual Kindle itself. What happened 🙂
When the package arrived from the USA, it is quite long. I was quite surprised by it. Turns out the bottom part was to accommodate the rather long USB charging cable too. Which is nice.
When it came, it was 62% in battery power so I charged it up as I set it up.
The Kindle Paperwhite Set Up process
The set up process for the was pretty fast. I also needed to connect it to my home wifi to download the existing Kindle library I have accumulated over the years.
There was ads for Amazon Prime (USA version) so don’t click on that. The next one is Audible. I did not click on that either.
I received an email giving me a Kindle Books $5 offer (not bad) and also Kindle Unlimited (will think about it). Talk about upselling 🙂
Some instructions on how to use the Kindle.
Finally the Kindle is set up completely with my Amazon Kindle Library appearing.
I will proceed to change the name of the Kindle (to 2020 :p) and also do the necessary firmware update.
And it is finally done. Ready for reading !!
Protecting the Kindle Paperwhite with a case
To protect the , I also bought a cheap protecting bag from Lazada. You can find a few good ones (here’s , here’s ) in Amazon too.
I am so glad it is so easy to order the nowadays and shipping it directly to Singapore. Those older generation of mine will understand the troubles we had to get it shipped to Singapore and to get it working in Singapore.
Progress !!
