Hong Kong is not just about food and shopping and great fun (although it is all of the above for me). Sometimes, it is worth to spend some time to visit its museum. I am so happy my colleague and I took time off to visit the Hong Kong Museum of History. It was an amazing experience. And it only cost HKD10 for a visit !
The history of Hong Kong was traced out in life form and huge exhibits (read: real size houses inside the museum, life size junks, even a 2 storey old Hong Kong shopping street).
Amazing. It has lots of interesting exhibits and many great short films that you can watch too. There is also a marker which is the marker that separates the British Hong Kong from the China Hong Kong before British rented the New Terrorities from China.
There is even a real size Ding Ding tram that was first manufactured in Hong Kong itself.
Brilliant place. The first floor is not as interesting as the 2nd floor and 3rd floor where it is about the more recent (like Hong Kong before World War 2 and Hong Kong after that and just before it was handed back to China in 1997). I really enjoyed the upper floors and especially feel the familarity of the history as I lived through those ages when Hong Kong was about to be handed back to China.
Try to find time for a visit ! It is a short 5-10 minutes walk from the East Kowloon MTR !
Be prepared to spend 3-4 hours there for a fulfilling experience !
