I first heard of Discovery Bay 愉景灣 from (what else) a TVB serial called Born Rich (富貴門). The story showed many scenes from the place (probably helping to sell the place…such is the nature of TVB serials nowadays)… but it looked really interesting. So I decided to go and take a look this trip.
To get there, I took bus DB01 from Tung Chung 東涌 MTR. From there you can go to Ngong Ping 360 (Lantau Island) and shop at the fantastic Citygate Factory outlet (We found a Coach shop there, where my dear spent SGD600 on 2 Coach bags !!).
Anyway from Tung Chung bus terminal, we took DB01 and along the way into the estate, it was quite a nice ride. Inside the Discovery Bay estate, we can see many expatriates and even an International School. I can see it is a wonderful place to stay as it is so quiet and yet so tranquil. And so far from town and yet not so far from mankind. I can imagine it is the choice of many expatriates who worked in Hong Kong.
It reached the Discovery Bay bus terminal and we all had to get off the bus. At the terminal, it is a huge complex of stores, food and shops. It is like the “central place” where the residents of the Discovery Bay will come together to do their shopping and have dinner etc.
We did not have enough time and I wished we could do more there. For example, walk to the yacht club which the TVB serial’s filming took place. Or up the hill to have a great view of the estate. Or have a romantic dinner by the side.
But as we were quite tired, we took some photos along the promenade where the central complex is and also took a romantic walk down the Discovery Bay beach.
After that, we took a nice direct ferry (with Wifi onboard) back to Central Pier. That’s how most people from Discovery Bay go to work at Central area. Yes, take a ferry ride every day to work. And back home to Paradise Discovery Bay. I would love to stay at Discovery Bay if I ever work in Hong Kong.
