A nice brown box came to my place today.
I love Xmas gifts.. hahha… Actually it is for myself.. It contains the RAM i ordered from OWC. OWC is an online retailer in USA that sells a lot of interesting (and super tempting) products such as SSD, RAM, Hard disks etc for Apple. The RAMs are very reasonable in price and when added to the shipping (which is pretty low via USA Postal Service and the box is light), it makes a great deal.
On 20th Dec, I ordered 2 pieces of 4GB RAM and 8 days later, it is delivered..
Previously, in Jan 2010, I upgraded the original 2GB RAM to 4GB RAM via a shop. Today, I decided to do it myself…
Easy after I viewed the video on the OWC web site and of course, OWC even made sure you know by putting colourful diagrams in their package to you..
And my 2 beautiful RAMs:
Opening up the back is simple with a Philips small screwdriver (the kind you use to tighten your specs).. but as an advice, make sure you have enough space to layout the exact screws you took out. That means, as you take out each screw, place it on another area in the exact spot.
That way, u can easily put the same screws back to the same hole. Reason ? There are two different lengths for the screws ! 🙂
Then you can see the RAM and just place the sides to remove the RAMs. When you put in the new RAMs, make sure you fit the right side as there is a small gap on the RAM to fit into the slots. Anyway, these are easily done. After that, cover back the Mac, tighten the screws and boot up. Then go to the Apple Logo on the left side of the menu bar and click ABOUT THIS MAC.
And 8GB RAM behold..
I then increase my VMWare Fusion allocated RAM to 2GB (it was 1GB). I also use CleanMyMac and then OnyX software to clean up the Mac and then reboot it. Not official, but I thought it is good to completely clean up all the caches, and what have you in the Mac (using these sophisticated cleaning software)..
Enjoying my 8GB of goodness now… too early to tell if it made a difference. Mentally it does.. hahaha… that is how i justify to myself
