The Kindle Paperwhite 2021 is the latest Amazon Kindle to hit the market. It is also called Kindle Paperwhite 5 (for the 5th Generation of Paperwhite) or the 11th Kindle or Paperwhite 2021.
It comes in two version. The 8Gb version and the 32Gb Signature version with wireless charging.
If you are looking for a good review, you can check out the Verge. I thought it was a rather in depth and very fair review.
Getting the Kindle Paperwhite 2021 in Singapore
As I mentioned in my previous Kindle Paperwhite blog two years ago, it is now possible to get the Kindle directly from Amazon to be sent to SG.
I think you need to use Amazon.SG at this time to get it though. In fact, visiting the Amazon.com through my Singapore IP seemed to constantly see “no stock” on the page. In the end, I got it from Amazon.SG during the Black Friday weekend.
I got the Kindle Paperwhite 8GB version and not the Signature version as it is the one on sale at 185 SGD during Black Friday sale at Amazon.SG.
I ordered it on 27th Nov and got it on 4th Dec. Pretty fast !!
Arrival of the Blue Packaging
Like the previous version, the box is in blue. And tall too.
USB-C charging
It comes with a USB-C charging cable too as this version finally supports USB-C charging.
Hello World from the latest Kindle
Features of the Kindle Paperwhite 5th Gen
Couple of new things in this 5th generation of Paperwhite.
The most important is, of course, the new 6.8” display. It makes a difference. I am telling you that.
You can see a picture of the last Kindle I have and the latest 5th Gen on the right. I did not know the 0.8” difference can makes such a big difference when placed side to side.
It also has adjustable warm light. This Kindle on the right is with Warm Light switched on.
And finally it has USB-C charging. My basic version does not come with wireless charging. You need the Signature version for the wireless charging.
Setting up Kindle Paperwhite 5
One other major difference is you are finally able to set up your Kindle Paperwhite with your Kindle app on your mobile phone. To do that you must enable Bluetooth for your Kindle app on your iPhone.
And on your iphone
And then, at the end, you will still go back to your Kindle to complete your final set up but it is relatively easier than before. No entering of much information needed.
Book Cover as Lock Screen
And did I mention it is now possible to show the cover of the book you are reading as the Display Cover for the Lock Screen. This is not the default setting though. You need to enable it in the Settings > Device Options.
And of course, it will only look nice if you have a cover. You know. A proper cover. Which is the case for books you buy from Amazon Kindle store or borrow from Amazon Kindle Unlimited……… 😉
It is a whole ecosystem, right.
Have you got your Kindle Paperwhite today 😉
