Hearst Castle. I first visited it in 2005. Did not realised I never put up the photos on this blog (but then back then it was not like now, easy to take digital photos with an iPhone :p).
I drove to this castle via Highway 1 from Los Angeles. I drove from LA through Carmel, Monterey (this place is beautiful!!!), and Santa Cruz and finally ended up in San Francisco. Along the way, you can stop at Hearst Castle.
A view of Highway One from Hearst Castle:
Hearst Castle was the palatial estate of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. It is located near San Simeon, California, on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean, halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Donated by the Hearst Corporation to the state of California in 1957, it is now a State Historical Monument and a National Historic Landmark, open for public tours. Hearst formally named the estate ‘La Cuesta Encantada’ (‘The Enchanted Hill’), but he usually just called it ‘the ranch’.
A castle in USA. Who would have thought of that. It is an extraordinary place built by an extraordinary man.
Beautiful especially in the day time…. when the California sun is in its full force,
Wonderful.
These photos were taken back in April 2005 (yes 2005, not 2015)….. then using a Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xg camera..
Look at the swimming pool.
Best time to visit…
