Lentor Mansion Preview Starts on 1st March

The 恆香老餅家 that sells 老婆餅 sits on the Castle Peak Road (which in fact is the longest road in Hong Kong. It runs from Kowloon to the very north of the New Territories, serving south, west and north New Territories).

Anyway on this road, right in the middle of the road, as traffic flows up and down of it, sits one of Yuen Lang Light Rail MTR line too. Hence it is very convenient for people who took the MTR to Yuen Lang stop and then transfer to this LRT to get to the Yuen Lang town centre.

The Light Rail is the only public transport system in Hong Kong to have fare zones and the only one with an honor system, in which there are no ticket gates. For example, at the Light Rail station just outside 恆香老餅家, I was surprised by it as I noticed it was an open train station. There was no ticket gates. Just many orange ticketing machines in the walkway leading up to the platform. I can walk all the way up to the platform and not pay or do anything 🙂

Reading further, this is the way it worked:

Passengers may enter the system after placing their Octopus card on the reader of an orange-coloured ‘Entry Processor’ reader. This action is known as validation. At this point, HK$5.80 is deducted from the Octopus card. When the passenger completes their journey, they place their card on a dark-green coloured ‘Exit Processor’. At this time, the difference between the HK$5.80 initially deducted, and the value of the fare travelled is refunded to the card. This design ensures that passengers revalidate their cards upon exit, otherwise they must pay the maximum fare of HK$5.80.

And the train is so near to the platform..
