Island Pacific Hotel Hong Kong

Lentor Mansion Preview Starts on 1st March

For this trip, we decided to stay (again) at the Hong Kong Island. I love staying on Hong Kong island compared to Kowloon. Personal preference. Anyway, we chose it as it is relatively affordable and also that it was in Sheung Wan which is an area where we did not stayed before. Lastly, it is very accessible from the airport via a direct bus A10. I love direct buses from airport as it is cheap and right to the door step (usually) of the hotels.

Finally, as I love Ding Ding trams in HK island, this hotel is right on the route map of the Ding Ding Tram. Also, there is FREE wifi (very fast !) in the hotel.. nice !

Oh, the hotel we stayed is the Island Pacific Hotel.

So one thing I must admit that attracted to the hotel was the great reviews on Tripadvisor as well as the fact that the room looked great at their web site 🙂

So I booked a deluxe room and hope it looked the same. This is how it looked :

Damn ! So different. And it is a deluxe room ! Ha Ha. Perhaps I needed to be on the executive floor to get that view !

Sharing some views of the Kowloon and the harbour (You can see Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park at the front of the photo as well as the (currently) world’s tallest hotel, Ritz-Carlton, in the 1588-foot International Commerce Centre)

Relatively speaking, this hotel is far from the nearest MTR (Sheung Wan) so we took a lot of the cheap and good Ding Ding Tram (there are two stops close to the hotel).

The Ding Ding tram stop near the hotel:

So if you dun like walking or squeezing on a tram or just like to be able to get close to your hotel once you are out of the MTR, this hotel is not a good idea. On the other hand, there is also always the hotel bus that takes you to the Sheung Wan MTR/Hong Kong MTR/Central MTR too. The hotel web site showed the timing of the hotel bus.

The staff is very friendly and in fact, we even got a free breakfast for three person just because all 3 of us “LIKED” the hotel in the facebook 🙂 And it was a good nice breakfast !

One thing also is that this hotel is right in the “dried seafood street” in Hong Kong.

Really. You can see (AND SMELL !!!) tens or hundreds of “dried seafood” shops on the same street as the hotel. In fact, you probably have to see it every day (and smell it every day) when you go out of the hotel, to the Ding Ding Trams or just walk to the Sheung Wan MTR. It is a nice experience. I like the smell and most importantly, the down to earth and simple area. Feels like a local. In fact, I was told that the hit TVB show, 溏心风暴, was filmed here too. Yet to look through the TVB show to see if I recognize any shops 🙂

Will I stay there again ? I doubt so as I like discovering new hotels in different parts of Hong Kong (and so far, my favourite is still the Empire Hotel Hong Kong).

But this is a nice cosy hotel and as long as you dun mind the distance from the MTR (there is also always the hotel bus that takes you to the Sheung Wan MTR/Hong Kong MTR/Central MTR etc), it is a good hotel to stay !

    • I highly doubt they care.. for me, I usually asked my companions to not loiter around the lobby or even come to the counter with me… sometimes they even go and have coffee or a meal first… and I check in myself..

    • Oh it is not near walking distance of any subway station. So i took the tram a lot. I dont go much tourist places but do use the subway a lot. So yes, if you do need to use the subway, i will not really advise. Although it is just a five mins tram ride away.
