I have a few PCs at home as well as my Asus netbook which all run Windows XP or Windows Vista. I also have to help support a few PCs at friends’ places (where I play a “part time IT support” Sigh…:p).
Recently I came upon a problem. How do I know the product key they had used to LEGALLY install their Windows XP, Windows Vista etc. This was necessary as my friends asked me how do they upgrade their Windows XP to the latest and greatest Windows 7.
I goggled around and found this software called Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder v2.0.1. My first try was terrifying as I am was not sure where I downloaded the software (apparently not from the official web site) and my AVG software told me it is a Trojan Horse ! Oh my god. I quickly deleted and started to worry whether I am infected.
I then went to the home page of the software and read about the software. It is supposedly to be open source and seemed safe from the various readings. So, from the home page, I downloaded the software from the web site and scan it with AVG. It is fine the 2nd time. I then run the software and indeed it extracted the product key. I matched against my records and it is correct. So I know it is working.
